Black Hair to Blond or Red?

Ok so I want to dye my black hair red. I know i have to bleach it but I was thinking what if when they bleach my hair I don't bleach it all the way to blond, just to orange. Will the damage still be bad? I bought color opps today (it takes off the black) but i didnt leave it on for long enough, and then i dyed it brown red and only the roots came out...it has worked before but I didn't leave the Color Opps enough time apperently.......so that's why I am just going to do the bleach

yeah the bleach will probably destroy your hair if your is truly black. after i dyed mine black i had to cut it all off and start from square one. needless to say i will never dye my hair black again. dark yes, but not black.

Ummm I wouldn't recommend bleach....it dosn't look that great especially when it grows out.....

when going from dark to light your best bet is to go to a salon and have it done. But if you are gonna do it yourself i would suggest going to sally's beauty supply. I you tell them what to do they will show you what you will need. Also get a red/gold corrector. It will help a little bit. If it goes orange you really shouldn't worry becuz the red will still come out becuz everyone knows that it is easier to go from light to dark than dark to light. If you are worried about the damage it will cause to your hair than they will be able to recomend stuff to help repair the damage.
