For example dye it dark brown first, then light brown and then eventually blonde.

It works well and will leave your hair in a much better state but does take a bit of patience

Yes you can do it but it has to be done at a beauty saloon by a profesional, and even like that your hair is likely to get damaged. They would need to do a color correction, in your case would be a color remover which is basically a bleach, after that a color. The problem is that color removers and bleaches damage the cuticle of the hair making it brittle and dry. Like I said you better go with a proffesional and try to find a "color expert " because they specialize in color corrections.
